Ferris Bueller's Day Off

I just finished watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and I must say I loved it! I thought it was funny, even hilarious at times. Now I must admit that I just happened to pick it up the other day only for the reason that I thought it might be like Weekend at Bernies... another hilarious movie, and one of my personal favorites... but the two really aren't all that similar...
except for them both being comedies from the 80's, and both being great movies.

If you haven't seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off then you definitely should... especially if you’re in high school. It’s a great reference guide on how to ditch successfully. (Sorry parents but sometimes kids need a way out, and it would be out of Ferris Bueller fashion if I don’t invoke his views when I greatly enjoyed the movie, and agree with him)... It's a great movie with a great storyline. I only wish that I could have seen it while I was still in high school... like I said, it would have came in handy.

The movie centers around 3 high school students ditching school in the hopes of having one of the greatest days of their lives before having to graduate in a few months and go their separate ways. Ferris Bueller is of course the main character, and the genius behind the plan. He fakes sick to trick his parents into letting him stay home from school... because well who wants to go to boring classes, where your teachers speak in monotone voices, and lecture you on something pointless like history. Anyone disagree?... "Anyone? Anyone?"... Sloane, Ferris’ girlfriend and Cameron, his best friend, also join in on the fun... or in Cameron's case are a bit dragged into it.

"If anyone needs a day off, it's Cameron. He has a lot of things to sort out before he graduates. Can't be wound up this tight and go to college, his roommate will kill him." -Ferris

Along with them is a hilarious cast of supporting characters. Like the school principal, Ed Rooney, who will stop at nothing to prove that Ferris Bueller is a liar and a slacker, one who should be stopped from graduating and forced to stay back a year. Other notable characters are; Jeanie Bueller and her and Ferris' parents, Grace the principles pinheaded secretary, parking garage guys... or part-time car “borrowers", a snooty waiter, and a classic 1961 Ferrari 250GT. "Less than 100 were made." It is Cameron's dads most beloved possession and Ferris' ride of choice for his "day off."

Ferris: "Look, its real simple. Whatever mileage we put on, we'll take off."
Cameron: "How?"
Ferris: "We'll drive home backwards."

So you've read enough, now ditch this review and go learn a little something on how to have one hell of a "day off" from school.

P.S., On a serious note. To the kids reading this. Stay in school. Ditching once or twice... or nine times... isn't bad, but not ever showing up isn't smart. Not getting a good education will be the stupidest thing you ever do. School is a requirement of society for a reason... and no it’s not so that your parents can get rid of you for 8 hours a day. Knowledge is power. Trust me.

"Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." -Ferris Bueller

Cheers!
Jenny
